Welcome to the Home Health Aide Training Program
Are you an agency owner/operator who wants to train your staff to meet the requirements for a home health aide? The OCHCH HHA Training Program provides you with the tools and resources your agency needs to efficiently train home health aides.
This program is designed for agencies and is not intended for independent providers, individuals, or self-employed providers.
Step by Step – Onboarding and Coursework
Step 1: Become a member of the Ohio Council for Home Care & Hospice.
- Full membership benefits are outlined on this page. An active OCHCH membership is required so that we can maintain our low training fees.
- Coursework essential to the HHA Program is arranged through the RCTCLearn.net platform, which is included in a standard membership at no extra cost. In addition to satisfying the prerequisites for HHA Live Training Session, this online training platform can be used for orientation and continuing education for team members, nurses, therapists, administrative, and leadership consistently and conveniently, 24/7, and can be started, stopped and resumed anytime.
Step 2: Submit your onboarding form.
- The employing agency must complete the HHA Program onboarding form located below.
- Only one completed form is required per agency when you enter the program. You do not need to enter student details on this form.
- Indicate your status with RCTC, such as needing a new account, more training tokens, or if you are unsure.
- If you have already onboarded, and only need an RCTC account or more tokens, visit our Contact Us form and select the RCTC option.
- OCHCH will contact you and together we will ensure you have the materials needed to begin your program.
- Internally, be sure to designate an RN on your team as the supervising staff member for your students.
Step 3: RCTC Coursework.
- Use instructions provided to you by OCHCH and RCTC to activate your students so they can complete the prerequisite 44.1 hours of online coursework.
- Aide trainees may not participate in the 16 hours of live instruction until they have completed all of the designated RCTC courses and passed the quizzes at the end of each course. Students are advised to either register for the HHA Live Training Session after coursework completion or select a date that allows for enough time to complete it.
- You will not need to pay for any aide training until they register for the two-day live training session. Until that point, your membership includes all the RCTC coursework needed. If a student does not complete the coursework, and does not proceed to the live training, you do not owe any fees.
Step by Step – Live Training
Step 4: Register your students to complete a live training session.
- The 16-hour classes are held on Zoom from 8 am to 5 pm on either weekday (Tuesday-Wednesday) or weekend sessions.
- Agency staff will visit the HHA Live Session Calendar to schedule their students. Once completed, the student will receive an email confirmation directly to their email address. This email contains the Zoom link for the session.
- Students must attend both days for the full 8 hours each without distraction or interruption and must be on camera for the duration of the course. If a student cannot attend both days fully, back to back, they must reschedule.
- There is no deadline to participate in the live session relative to when a student begins their RCTC coursework. Students may progress at their own rate, then schedule the live training.
Upcoming Sessions:
- Weekdays: March 11-12, April 8-9, May 6-7, June 3-4, July 1-2
- Weekends: February 22-23, March 29-30, April 26-27, May 24-25, June 14-15, July 19-20
Step by Step – Testing and Supervision
Step 5: Pass the written competency exam.
- After completing the live training session, the instructor will provide the written exam and answer key to the agency’s supervising RN.
- The participating agency’s designated RN will proctor the exam.
Step 6: Complete 16 hours of practical training.
- Practical training, as outlined in the provided check-off list, is to be supervised by the agency’s designated RN trainer.
- Return the demonstration of skills checklist to OCHCH.

Program Cost
The program is available to agencies at all scales – those that wish to train one or two individuals, or whole cohorts. The Council has created a model that takes volume into consideration, while retaining affordable pricing for agencies that have smaller teams in mind.
For agencies with a low number of trainees, individual registrations is the most cost-effective at $249 per registration. The fee is due at the time of registration for a live training session. Prior to that stage, RCTC coursework is covered under your standard membership.
For agencies that have many aides to train, the best value can be found in purchasing a Home Health Aide Training Program Pass, either a Tier 1 or Tier 2 plan based on your projected annual training volume.
Tier 1: $2,000
- Ten (10) trainee registrations per year included in the price of the pass, a $2,490 value.
- Each additional trainee may register at the discounted price of $125 each.
- Saves $49 each vs. the regular member rate on your first 10 trainees, then $124 each afterwards.
- Well suited for agencies planning to train more than eight aides per year.
Tier 2: $3,000
- 20 Home Health Aide trainee registrations included, a $4,980 value.
- Each additional trainee may register at the discounted price of $100 each.
- Saves $99 each vs. the regular member rate on your first 20 trainees, then $149 each afterwards.
